     MALTESE BREED INFORMATION

The Maltese is an ancient breed with references made to them in ancient Greek writings and portrayed in ancient Egyptian statuary.
This toy breed was thought to have been brought to England by Crusaders returning home. The glamorous Maltese today is an adored pet and sought-after show dog that is covered from head to foot with a mantle of long, silky, white hair.This toy breed is playful, intelligent and lively. It is a very devoted dog and learns tricks quickly if they feel they are being adequately rewarded.

They also are quick to warn their master in case of suspicious noises. These dogs also love to play outdoors.Their coats require daily grooming but they are light shedders.

EXERCISE: They require very little exercise and make great apartment dwellers. Even though they love to play outside, a fenced yard is not required.

The Maltese has soft, silky hair that does not shed, and does not have many of the genetic health problems that get passed down through other breeds. They have a reputation for being the healthiest toy breed in the world.

Maltese are solid white sometimes with fawn or lemon markings on the ears but this usually disappear by the age of one year.
 
In addition, many people find the Maltese to be hypo-allergenic. This is because the Maltese has "human-like" hair that sheds minimally. For this reason, many people that are allergic to other breeds find that they are not allergic to the Maltese.

Maltese general characteristics include: One of the brightest toy breeds gentle and playful, craves personal attention, needs very little outdoor exercise ( perfect apartment dog ). 
Maltese dogs are a native of Malta.  These dogs are naturally small and yet they are playful and intelligent as well as a loyal companion to its owner. They are also known to be a “happy dog” because of their affectionate and playful nature. They are also good watch dogs because they possess a high level of alertness and will bark at almost anything that they know is unusual.
